News you can use

Here is some recent news about the University of Denver that may be useful to you as you provide guidance to your students—especially those who seek the perfect balance between a small liberal arts college with the benefits of a large research institution and therefore could be a great fit for DU.

  • DU receives high marks for faculty-student engagement—DU students continue to rank their education higher than students at peer institutions in four benchmark categories: student-faculty interaction, level of academic challenge, active and collaborative learning, and enriching educational experiences. 88% of DU freshmen report a favorable image of the institution, and 81% of seniors would choose DU again if they could start their college career over, according to the 2008 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) released Nov. 10.

  • DU ranks second for undergraduate study abroad—The University ranks second in the nation among doctoral and research institutions in the percentage of undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs, according to the 2008 Open Doors report released Nov. 18 by the Institute of International Education (IIE). The report shows that DU sent 74.4% of our undergraduates abroad during the 2006-07 academic year.

  • Increase in scholarship funding for DU students—The University has committed an additional $2.6 million to merit awards and financial aid for first-year students entering DU this fall. This additional funding, a 29% increase from two years ago, demonstrates DU’s commitment to make our great education accessible for talented students. Our merit awards range from $9,000 to as much as $18,000, and they are renewed annually as long as the student remains in good academic standing.

  • Increase in applications to DU—To date, the number of applications for admission has increased an astonishing 59%. We attribute the increase to the rising national reputation of DU and our efforts to reach out to more students geographically. Our application deadline for Regular Decision is fast approaching—students should ensure they apply for admission by Jan. 15 and submit all materials for financial aid application by March 1.

A University of Denver education is prized for the investments we make in student learning, for our emphasis on excellence, innovation, engagement, integrity and inclusiveness, and for our graduates’ successful outcomes. We invite you to learn more by exploring our web site at www.du.edu.
